JAMMU, July 14: The VHP leaders led by its State president Leela Karan Sharma today protested in front of Party Office at Rehari and disrupted the movement of vehicular traffic on the road for a while in protest against the arrest of Bajrang Dal convener Rakesh Sharma by police.
The VHP leaders, who were addressing a press conference inside the party office came out on road after some BD workers informed them that police has huddled Rakesh Sharma in a jeep and they were taking him to Pacca Danga Police Station to foil the BD bid to hold a demonstration at Pres Club against the Government for changing the title of land belonging to a Devasthan at Bishnah.
As soon as Leela Karan Sharma, VHP working president, Hem Raj Khajuria, general secretary of the Organization, Dr Sham Lal Gupta and other leaders of the organization reached outside on the road the police jeep had left.
This evoked a strong protest from VHP and BD activists who shouted slogans and also staged a protest on the road disrupting the movement of vehicular traffic for some time.
However, sensing trouble some senior police officers rushed the spot and pursued the VHP leaders to maintain cool. They refused to lift the dharna till BD leader was released. They also questioned the police for taking Rakesh Sharma in preventive custody who is a law abiding citizen. Leela Karan Sharma, Dr Sham and other VHP leaders also made heated arguments with police officers. Later police released Sharma and the protestors dispersed.
After half an hour, the BD activists led by Rakesh Sharma again assembled in front of VHP Office and torched the effigy of State Government demanding restoration of 292 Kanals of land at Bishnah to Devasthan. They warned that in case Government failed to restore the land, the VHP and BD will launch an agitation.
Earlier talking to media persons Leela Karan Sharma, took the Government to task for yesterday’s episode saying that the land of devasthans is being transferred under a hatched conspiracy.
He said Jammu is a stumbling block to some forces hell bent in furthering Pak agenda in the State and under a hatched conspiracy the title of land is being changed by the Government.
He lambasted the administration for not providing permission to host Dangal on the land where it has been organized for years together.
Leela Karan Sharma said that the land belonging to Hindu Devasthans and other social organizations has been transferred to Auqaf Islam at various places in Jammu like Hari Singh High School Residency Road etc.
He warned the Government to restrain from such acts as people of Jammu will not tolerate the same in future.
Dr Sham said VHP all over country will constitute a Hindu Board and the Hindu shrines of the State will also be brought under the same.
