JAMMU, July 20: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said today that National Conference president and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Dr Farooq Abdullah wouldn’t be contesting the forthcoming Assembly elections in the State, which were due to be held in November-December.
“Dr Sahib is not contesting this time. His health is not allowing him to contest the polls,” Omar said.
About the reports that NC president and former Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr Farooq Abdullah not contesting the forthcoming Assembly elections in the State, Omar maintained that the health condition of his father is not allowing him to join the electoral fray.
Farooq had contested recent Lok Sabha elections from Srinagar Lok Sabha seat, which he had won in 2009 Parliamentary polls, but lost to PDP’s Tariq Hamid Qarra. Due to health problems, Farooq had not attended the NC’s Parliamentary Board meeting, which had cleared first list of 32 candidates for the Assembly elections. (KNS)
