SRINAGAR, July 21: Claiming that National Conference (NC) has played an un-paralleled historical role for socio-political emancipation of the Jammu and Kashmir, the senior NC leader and Minister for Finance, Abdul Rahim Rather today asked the people to further strengthen the party for safeguarding the State’s identity and its age old traditions of communal harmony.
Addressing public gatherings today at Dardpora and Dalwan villages of Chrar-i-Sharief Constituency, represented by him, Mr Rather said interests of the State are safe in the hands of NC alone given its track record of sacrifices for the cause of people.
He alleged other political parties have no futuristic agenda for the welfare and progress of the State except having power lust.
He said poverty alleviation of the people and their socio-political emancipation has been the goal of the party since last about seven decades.
Mr Rather asked the people especially youth to study the Kashmir history in depth and see how NC and its leadership has rendered supreme sacrifices for the cause of J&K and its people.
The NC has fought a long battle to free the people from the slavery of feudalism, Mr Rather said adding that its present leadership under young Omar Abdullah has a clear vision about the development of the State and its people especially youth.
“We have devised a well planned strategy to make the State self-sufficient in power generation in next 5 to 8 years and have also devised a broad based employment scheme for youth’’, Mr Rather added.
Cautioning about machinations of the opposition political parties to mislead and hoodwink people about the contribution of NC in the political arena of the State, Mr Rather said the BJP for lust of power tries to divide the society on the basis of religion whereas the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has become the safe haven for every corrupt and tainted opportunist element in the State. He said these political parties are changing colours like chameleons to deceive the people for satiating their vested political interests.
He asked the people to fight tooth and nail against all such anti-people elements and defeat them in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
