BISHNAH, July 21: Senior Advocate and prominent citizen of Jammu, Mohinder Bhardwaj has demanded the Government to take urgent steps to ensure good Rabi crops in Bishnah region.
Addressing a well attended meeting of residents of Rehal, Kothe Saini, Shahpu, Saidgarh, Karail and adjoining areas here on Sunday evening, Bhardwaj asked the State Government to immediately focus on the problems of the area which directly relate to farmers and hit the agricultural produce in the past seasons. The agro infrastructure has to be maintained and upgraded to ensure that the farmers do not suffer anymore as the Rabi season is fastly approaching, he added.
Alleging that concerned authorities have completely failed to provide water for irrigation in the whole Bishnah Tehsil which has delayed the sowing of Rabi crop, Bhardwaj gave 24-hours ultimatum to the authorities to provide irrigation water in the area failing which the farmers will have no other option than to start an agitation against the authorities.
Talking about the potential of Rehal and adjoining areas, Bhardwaj reiterated that entire Bishnah should be developed as a satellite zone with these areas as its green lungs. It is possible to conceive a unique model of development for the entire zone aimed at its overall development without disturbing the agricultural character for which the area is known, he pointed out.
Prominent Congress worker and social activist of the area, Ashok Dubey said that the entire Bishnah Tehsil has been neglected by the State authorities. Despite being the closest town to Jammu, Bishnah has not witnessed any development in the past 10 years, he said and demanded the Government to come up with immediate plans to improve basic infrastructure in the entire tehsil.
