BJP demands relief for cloud burst victims

JAMMU, July 25:  BJP has demanded constitution of a high level Committee to assess the loss caused due to unprecedented rain, cloud burst and flash floods in the rural areas of district Jammu.
Addressing media persons here today, the State general secretary and former MLA Bali Bhagat after concluding day long tour of villages Mishriwala, Kangrail, Purkhoo, Kalri, Bhalwal and Kaink along with Jammu rural district president, Sukhdev Singh Sarpanch and district general secretary, Omi Khajuria, said that State Government should constitute a High Level Committee comprising of top officials of departments like Irrigation & Flood Control, Works, Power, Forest, Agriculture, Soil Conservation, Rural Development including civil administration to assess the loss caused due to the unprecedented natural calamity in Raipur-Domana, Akhnoor and Marh constituencies and other areas of Jammu district.
Expressing Party’s sympathies with the families affected by recent cloudbursts and flash floods, Bali Bhagat said that 100%  compensation for the losses should be given to the affected families and a comprehensive plan be prepared for complete rehabilitation of the affected families on the pattern of Ladakh cloud burst victims.
The BJP leader said that over hundred residential houses and shops got partially damaged and some other Kaccha houses besides the live stock were washed away due to recent cloudbursts and flash floods. The roads and communication connectivity got totally collapsed, school buildings, primary health centres etc. too got badly damaged, he added.
Bali Bhagat said the government should immediately provide blankets, utensils, ration and other required house hold items forthwith.  It should also provide cement, iron (saria), bricks, sand and other construction material at earliest to those families whose houses and business establishments have been damaged in the area under natural calamity relief fund and State Disaster Relief Fund. He urged the Government to start construction work of damaged bridges, roads, culverts and school buildings on war footing basis.
