2-day symposium concludes at SKUAST Jammu

JAMMU, July 25: A two-day national symposium on ‘Natural Resource Management and Sustainable Hill Farming Systems for Livelihood Security’ concluded at Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agriculture Science and Technology (SKUAST-Jammu).
The symposium was organized by Soil Conservation Society of India, Jammu Chapter in collaboration with Division of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry of SKUAST-Jammu.
On the occasion, Dr A K Singh, Vice Chancellor, Rajmata Vijayraje Scindia Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Gwalior and former DDG (ICAR) were the chief guests and Dr Ram Vishwakarma, Director, Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu was the guest of honour of the valedictory function.
Dr Singh stressed upon importance of conservation of soil and water besides focusing on the integrated farming systems approach for increasing the house hold income of the hill farmers.
Dr Ram Vishwakarma, Director, Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine said that J&K possess immense potential for cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants and IIIM, Jammu will work closely with SKUAST-Jammu for the benefit of farming community.
Dr Pradeep K Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu hoped that the recommendations made during the two days symposium will help in prioritizing the research and development in the hilly regions of J&K State.
Earlier, on the inaugural day of the symposium by Minister for Agriculture Production Ghulam Hassan Mir and Minister for Housing, Horticulture, Culture and Youth Services and Sports, Raman Bhalla were also present.
The artists of Cultural Wing of Information Department presented colourful cultural items which were highly applauded by the audience.
The artists who presented colourful cultural items on the occasion included Jeevan Sharma, Vijay Anand, Sunil Sharma, Jony Kumar, Amit Anand, Palvi Koul, Zulikha Farid, Nirmal Koul, Usha Handoo, Surjit Sumbaria and Kamal Kumar.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr Sachin Kumar.
Among others, Dean Dr J P Sharma, Cultural Officer Information
Department, Raman Joshi, Head of Departments of various departments, scientists, teaching and non-teaching staff members were also present on the occasion and enjoyed the two-hour long cultural programme held in conference hall in SKUAST-Jammu.
