Normal woman administered pregnancy termination medicine

JAMMU, July 25: In a bizarre incident, negligence of doctors and para-medical staff in private JK Medicity Hospital at Channi Himmat led to killing of foetus in the womb of a woman tonight.
Husband of the woman, Rakesh Kumar Sharma of Rajouri told the Excelsior on telephone from JK Medicity hospital in the presence of his Advocate Rouf Lone that he had come for normal medical examination of his wife Satuti Sharma, who was carrying eight month pregnancy.
When he was getting his wife examined, at the same time, another woman was examined by Dr Indu Koul, gynecologist.
Rakesh said Dr Koul advised the para-medical staff to give pregnancy termination medicine to other woman and prescribed normal medicines to his wife.
He added that when he went to the Chemist shop to take the medicines, he was surprised to see long list and enquired from the Chemist. He was surprised to know that he had been given the list of pregnancy termination medicines.
“I rushed back to the hospital but by that time, the staff had given pregnancy termination medicines to my wife in place of another woman,” Rakesh said, adding Dr Indu Koul intervened and performed some treatment.
“I was told that my wife will be alright as the medicine has been neutralized,” Rakesh said, adding his wife felt pain and he again rushed him to hospital at 8 pm. At that time, the doctors got the dead baby delivered, he said charging the doctors and staff of JK Medicity with killing his child in womb of his wife.
He said he would be lodging a FIR against the private hospital and staff tomorrow morning.
The family members and attendants of Rakesh Sharma also held protest in the hospital.
