Gujarat to spend Rs 400 cr in FY’13 to promote tourism

KOLKATA, July 14: Gujarat will spend Rs 400 crore on tourism infrastructure development and the promotion of the sector this fiscal.
“We are going to spend Rs 400 crore during the current fiscal in infrastructure development and promotion of tourism,” Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd and Tourism Commissioner Sanjay Kaul said here today.
The amount includes the Rs 120 crore grant, approved by the Planning Commission for 2012-13, he said.
The Commission has approved Rs 1,200 crore for promoting coastal tourism in Gujarat in the current Five Year Plan period (2012-17).
Kaul said the state has drawn up major plans to promote tourism in the state and expects the grant will help in a lot in achieving the goals.
With Amitabh Bachchan acting as brand ambassador for the state’s tourism sector, he said, the number of tourists had increased by 54 lakh in the last two years. The state is expecting a total inflow of 2.5 crore tourists this fiscal. (PTI)
