CWA team visits Railway Station

JAMMU, July 15: As a follow up of the discussions held with Minister of CAPD and Transport Qamar Ali Akhoon regarding apathetic conditions prevailing at Jammu Railway Station a team of Consumer Welfare Association (CWA) visited the Railway Station today.
The visiting team comprised of Vikram Gour, president CWA, D P Khajuria and N K Mattoo. They went round the entire inner complex of the Railway Station and found that entire area was totally unclean with lots of garbage placed at various corners.
The team said that the barbed wire placed by the JKP along the main road serves no purpose and lot of garbage was also lying under it. The Railway platform No 1 was absolutely unclean with small garbage dumps on the platform itself and there is hardly any sitting arrangement for the passengers on the platform, they added.
They further said the Railway run restaurant at the platform had no arrangement to cool and serve thousands of passengers and yatris as there are no cooks, bearers or service providers posted by the Railways except a manager.
Later in the meeting with DTM all these points were discussed with him. He clarified that the parking charges are fixed by Indian Railway authorities according toe category of the station and Jammu Railway Station is categorized as A Class for which Parking charges are Rs 30 and he has no role to play in this.
Regarding cleanliness he promised that steps will be taken for the same was new contractor was engaged and he passed instructions to the staff to take extra care to keep Railway Station clean.
He assured them that he will make a request to DRM, Ferozepur to allot funds for making arrangements for benches at platform No 1.
