SAMBA, July 30: Devak bridge of Utterbehni has become a major problem for public which was damaged due to flash flood in rainy season and requires immediate attention of the concerned authorities.
The bridge was constructed during the time of Th Gulchain Singh Charak when he was Minister for R&B and it was inaugurated by Ghulam Nabi Azad the then Chief Minister of the State. But, in June-July 2012, some pillars of the bridge were damaged due to flash flood in rainy season. But after spending of over two years, Government could not take the initiate to reconstruct this bridge though people of the area approached it many times.
The present Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah also visited to inspect this bridge in 2013 and assured the public that the bridge will be immediately constructed. But to no avail.
The people as well as the devotees of Utterbehni and Purmandal were suffering much more problem due to the damage of this bridge. Thousands of devotees come these historical as well as religious places on Amavas and other historical days to pay the obeisance at these holy places.
People of the area, have show concern against the State Government as well as the department of Roads and Buildings for not constructing the bridge. The bridge being the life line of the area needs immediate construction, said local residents.
They warned the State Government that if it failed to construct the bridge then the mass agitation will be launched and the Government will be held responsible for the same.
