SRINAGAR, Aug : A fierce encounter between militants and security forces was going on in Keran sector in the frontier district of Kupwara since early this morning. So far two to four militants have been killed, official sources said adding that operation was still going on. However, defence ministry spokesman was not available while police said the operation is near the Line of Control (LoC), where only Army is operating. Sources said that a group of militants when challenged and asked to surrender in Keran sector attacked security forces with automatic weapons.
Security forces also retaliated and the fierce encounter continued.
Sources said two to four militants were reportedly killed in the encounter. However, no body was so far recovered, they said adding operation was going on in the dense forest when the reports last came in. (UNI)
