JAMMU : Bhartiya Janata Party national president Amit Shah is likely to visit Jammu on August 8 to welcome former Congress MP Choudhary Lal Singh, who may join the party in his presence.
Mr Lal Singh may join BJP in presence of Mr Shah, who is likely to pay a visit here on August 8,” party sources said.
They said the visit of Mr Shah will be related only to the joining of Mr Singh.
Mr Singh had remained two times Congress MP from Kathua-Udhampur Parliament Constituency. In the recently held Lok Sabha polls, he was denied the mandate from the constituency instead former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad contested from Kathua-Udhampur Constituency but lost to BJP candidate Dr Jitendra Singh. Choudhary Lal Singh thereafter quit the Congress party and blamed Mr Azad for the Congress debacle in Jammu and Kashmir.
Lal Singh had also announced that he will contest as independent candidate from the Basholi Segment in the coming Assembly elections.
Pertinent to mention here that the BJP had also reinstated its suspended MLA Jagdish Sapolia from Basholi into the party.
Mr Sapolia was among 7 MLAs, who were suspended for allegedly cross-voting to National Conference and Congress candidates in MLC polls.
