JAMMU, Aug 1: A Border Security Force (BSF) Inspector was killed and a Sub Inspector (SI) was injured in accidental firing inside a BSF Gypsy, about 300 meters short of its Dharap camp falling under the jurisdiction of Satwari police station this morning.
Reports said five BSF personnel including one Deputy Commandant, Inspector, Sub Inspector, Havaldar and Sepoy were returning from patrolling along the International Border (IB) in Abdullian in RS Pura sector to their Dharap camp at around 9 am today when an accident fire from within the Gypsy pierced through chest of the Inspector and shoulder of the Sub Inspector.
The Inspector identified as Rati Ram of Rewari, Haryana was virtually killed on the spot as he was declared dead on being shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu. SI Ramvir Thakur has been admitted in the GMC, where he was responding to the treatment.
Reports said Satwari police station has registered a case of death under mysterious circumstances under Section 174 RPC at Satwari police station and seized two weapons—Insaas rifle and pistol, which the BSF personnel were carrying in the Gypsy, for investigations.
The BSF personnel belonging to 94 battalion, who were present in the Gypsy along with the victims, were quizzed and their statements recorded by the police. Further investigations were in the progress.
The BSF has described the case as that of accidental firing.
Body of the deceased Inspector has been handed over to the BSF after post-mortem.
