JAMMU, Aug 4: The social mobilization and institution building in Umeed Project of Jammu has motivated Himachal Pradesh to do the same in neighbouring State.
This was stated by Robin George, Project Director, Himachal Pradesh State Rural Livelihoods Mission who along with a team consisting of 33 officers visited Umeed Project in Jammu region.
The team visited Jammu to get exposure on the successful model of Umeed Project implementation. The State representatives of NRLM Yogita Rana, Manickaraajan along with Arun Manhas, AMD Umeed shared the overview of the Umeed project being implemented in Jammu through power point presentation at JKEDI Conference Hall, Jammu. They also explained the Management Information System customized by Umeed to monitor the project online.
The team visited Gaghwal and Chenani blocks to understand the capacities of community and to know the process of project implementation of different levels. During their field trips the team interacted with Village Organization (VO) Representative General Body (RGB) at Sanghwali village of Gaghwal Block, and Rathian village of Chenani Block and appreciated community a lot when they observed the innate talents of the illiterate poor women.
The team also visited the livelihood activities being run by the SHG women. Apart from the community interactions the team also visited the agriculture fields of the SHG families at Mantalai village.
Arun Manhas, AMD Umeed facilitated the de-briefing session on last day visit of the team. He explained the project implementation process in detail by sharing the issues that came up across in the initial days in the implementation of the project. He also shared the strategies taken up to overcome the issues.
SK Katal, Virender Kumar and Gurjit Singh, APOs of the Umeed/DRDA accompanied the team for three days.
