JAMMU, Aug 6: The Jammu Municipal Corporation has turned virtually insensitive to the garbage and ‘mulba’ dumps in various parts of Jammu city, whether it is Lakad Mandi- Indira Colony Janipur, Subash Nagar, New Plot, Sarwal or some other parts of the Jammu city.
With this growing menace and insensitive behavior of the field and other senior staff of the Municipal Corporation, the general public is badly suffering. The roads have been choked or shrunk at many places. This also has affected the free movement of vehicles. The garbage during these rainy season emits very foul smell giving open invitation to epidemic.
Apparently, the Health authorities and the ‘Khilafwarzi wing’ of the agency has been turning a blind eye towards these issues affecting public directly. A large dump on Lakad Mandi, Janipur road has covered about half of the road and some times the dogs and stray cattle scatter this on the road causing inconvenience to the public. The dump has also affected the movement of the vehicles and the double road has turned into single with the huge dump. Even some locals have also thrown ‘mulba’ at this place.
The residents of the area alleged that they contacted concerned Supervisor, Health Officer JMC, Joint Commissioner and even the Khilafwari Officer on telephone and also submitted a written complaint to the office but the problem was not resolved. It was also impressed upon that violators be punished under the law but nothing happened. The Joint Commissioner and Health Officer even gave assurance but nothing happened. The efforts were also made to established contact with the Commissioner JMC Kiran Wattal but his PA, Mr Gupta twice told that he was ‘very busy’.
This is not an isolated case, such dumps have been lying unattended at Subash Nagar near Govt quarters, Old New Plot near State Motor Garages and at Sarwal near Last Morh. There seems to be no close monitoring by the senior officers of the JMC over such public issues. Not only this, worst quality of milk is being supplied in Jammu city and the JMC authorities which had earlier shown efficiency and commitment towards public, have apparently again gone to hibernation, compromising public interests. There is no check on adulterated milk supply and its quality. Hapless citizens are suffering.
The residents of these localities have urged upon the Minister in-charge Housing and Urban Development, Nawang Rigzin Jora and Commissioner, Housing and Urban Development to intervene personally and review the functioning of the agency and pull its staff for slackness in certain areas.
