Peace, development NC’s hallmark: Rana

JAMMU Aug 7: Terming peace and development as hallmark of National Conference, Provincial President Devender Singh Rana today said the ongoing tenure of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been accomplishment of consolidating peace and creating an aura of infrastructural revolution in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The most enviable feature of the National Conference led Government has been to give a sense of involvement to the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh in the affairs of the State by making Government fully accountable”, Mr Rana said while interacting with several deputations at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here.
National Conference, the Provincial President said, does not believe in false sloganeering or beating the bushes but it aims at enhancing the quality of life by undertaking infrastructural development, ensuring public utility services and seeking partnership of people in decision making. “This is exactly what the Omar led Government did during the past about six years that led the State on the path of progress and prosperity with renewed vigour”, Mr Rana said while giving a detailed account of achievements registered during the past nearly six years.
Referring to the Panchayat elections after 33 years and introducing path breaking legislations like Right to Information and Public Services Guarantee Acts, the Provincial President said: “These innovative measures have certainly become eyesore for certain elements who believe in just selling dreams and creating passions to hoodwink the public opinion”.
Terming people as best judges to adjudge the performance of the Omar-led Government, Mr Rana said the Chief Minister passed the acid test of containing situation at the outset of his Government. “Those were times when the State, particularly Kashmir Valley was witnessing a crisis like situation with all spheres of life showing signs of fatigue due to strains caused by peace inimical political outfits. But for National Conference plunging into the scene, the situation would have drifted to point of no return,” he added. He gave a detailed account of how the situation was brought under control, a sense of security infused among the people, economic activities restored and more crucially the academics of children brought on rails.
“Six years in not so long a period that can be forgotten”, Mr Rana said while urging the people to recall the challenges to the Government led by Omar Abdullah, especially in Srinagar which was boiling due to unrest caused by myopic political entities. “Not only did the Chief Minister brought order due to his far sight and vision but he succeeded in gaining the trust of people who helped in creating an atmosphere of normality,” Mr Rana said.
Prominent among the delegations that called on the Provincial President included SC/ST and Other Backward Classes deputation from Bhaderwah, Gandoh, Rajouri, Kathua, Udhampur and the members of contractual Lecturers of Higher Education Department.
The delegations brought to the notice of the Provincial President several issues of public importance and sought his intervention in getting these looked into. Mr Rana assured these will be taken up at appropriate levels for earnest action.
