JAMMU, Aug 8: In a talk series organised by Faculty of Agriculture, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), Dr Ram Vishwakarma, Director, Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (formerly RRL), Jammu delivered a brainstorming lecture on the topic “Natural Products Driven Drug Discovery and New Oppourtunities” in the main conference hall of SKUAST-J, Chatha.
The lecture was attended by more than 140 delegates including all the faculty members and students of SKUAST-J.
Dr Pradeep Kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-J while extending warm welcome to the speaker, presided over the function where Director Research Dr VK Vali and Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Dr JP Sharma were also present.
Dr Ram told that J&K possess immense potential for cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants and IIIM Jammu will undertake a joint research work in the areas of mutual interest with SKUAST-Jammu for the benefit of farming community.
He stressed that both the institutions will hold, whenever feasible, joint workshops, training courses within the areas of cooperation in addition to impart training to staff, students and technical personnel of SKUAST-J.
Dr Ram further stressed that the two institutes will share their respective important R&D facilities in order to promote academic and research interactions to intensify the high priority area programmes of science and technology and access to laboratory, library and other supporting facilities for jointly supervised BSc, MSc and PhD courses and for that students will be provided required facilities by both the institutes by signing a MoU in the near future.
The talk ended with the vote of thanks presented by Dr RK Salgotra, Coordinator, School of Biotechnology.
