Gul, Saifullah highlight importance of environment

KUPWARA, Aug 9: Speaker Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul and Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs,  Mir Saifullah today  participated in the seminar on the topic “Environment and Hazards Development” organised by Rural Development Society (RDS) at Kupwara.
Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker welcomed the peace initiative by India & Pakistan for improving the bilateral ties between the two countries. He said talks are the only solution to resolve all outstanding issues which are for the welfare of the people of both the countries including Jammu and Kashmir. He said the Kashmir remained worse affected due to more than two decades of proxy war and now lasting peace is required for the development of the State and its people.
Mr. Gul emphasized the need for more confidence building measures between the two countries so that the people of these countries pay more visits to exchange the cultural activities. He also called for improving the business and opening new points to facilitate the trade. He also stressed for liberalizing the visas to make easy access by the people of both the countries.
On the occasion, Mr. Gul announced Senior Citizens Rehabilitation & Welfare Home at district headquarter Kupwara. For this purpose a committee headed by Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Saifullah was constituted to identify the land. The Rural Development Society also provided 2 computer sets and an Ambulance for needy persons.
Highlighting the importance of environment, the Speaker impressed upon the people to make collective efforts to save the environment. He appealed the people to protect all natural resources like forests and water resources and avoid polythene products to maintain the environment. He said due to global warming there is worse impact on the day to day life of people and all stakeholders have to make efforts to save the environment for our better tomorrow, said the Speaker.
Mir Saifullah in his address made fervent appeal to the people, especially the younger generation to play vital role for preserving the environment. He stressed the need for a massive awareness campaign to educate the masses about the environment preservation. He expressed concern about the constant degradation of forests and natural resources which are cause of concern to create environment imbalance. He said entire society has to come forward for this noble cause.
Former MLA & District President (RDS), Qaisar Jamsheed Lone, Chairman, District RDS, Haji Mohd Sultan Mir and other dignitaries from civil society also delivered their lectures in the Seminar on the theme and stressed the need for collective efforts to save the environment.
A debate on the topic Environment & Hazards of Development was also held wherein students of different educational institutions participated and read their essays on the topic. The best trophies and commendation certificates were distributed by the chief guest.
