JKCTA delegation calls on CM

JAMMU, Aug 9: A joint delegation of Jammu and Kashmir Wings of J&K College Teachers’ Association (JKCTA) called on Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah at his Gupkar residence and submitted a representation to him.
The Jammu Wing of JKCTA was represented by its president, Dr Sanjay Verma while the Kashmir Wing was represented by Tariq Ashai.
The delegation invited the kind attention of CM to their burning demands including enhancement of age of superannuation of college teachers to 62, removal of pay anomalies in the recently issued SRO-124 by the State Government and restoration of posts manned earlier by college teachers in various departments.
The delegation members apprised the CM that in order to address the situation arising out of the shortage of teachers in colleges at the National level, the Union HRD Ministry has enhanced the age of superannuation to 65 years for college and university teachers. The situation in our State is no different but is very much alarming and there is urgent need to enhance the retirement age of college teachers in our State also, they added.
To support their demand, they said as the two new universities consisting of cluster of colleges are coming up, one at Jammu and other at Srinagar, there is urgent need to enhance the age of superannuation of State college teachers at par with other state universities. Moreover, the same conditions of recruitment and placement for college as well as university teachers should be adopted and there should be no disparity between college and university teachers, so far as the age of superannuation is concerned, they added.
The CM assured the delegation that he will obtain the proposal regarding superannuation of age from Higher Education Department and the matter will be finalized in the Cabinet. Regarding restoration of various posts and SRO-124, he said that matter will be sorted out on priority basis.
