The selection of people should be purely on merit and nothing else. There should be no controversy over names. The men who have contributed towards building the nation should be considered. Fair selection of awardees will help in maintaining prestige attached with the award. Partiality will lower its esteem in the eyes of people.
Political parties have to play a key role in the selection process. They should not play politics in it.
The nation will have great respect and honour for people who achieve the award only on merit and nothing else.
