SRINAGAR, Aug 13: Principal Sessions’ court today issued warrant against SSP Jammu Uttam Chand, seeking his presence before it in connection with Ganderbal in fake encounter case on the next date of hearing on August 29.
Uttam Chand is to depose as prosecution witness in the fake encounter killing of Abdul Rehman Padroo, a carpenter, in 2005. The Judge, Rashid Ali Dar, issued the warrant after counsel for one of the accused Farooq Ahmad Gudoo stated that the prosecution witness is taking casual approach towards the process issued by the court.
The CPO Srinagar had moved an application before the court, seeking adjournment with the plea that the Chand was busy with the arrangements of August 15.
Uttam Chand, who was the then Investigating Officer (IO), has established that Padroo was killed in a fake encounter 7 years ago. The accused include SSP Parihar, DySP Bahadur Ram, ASI Farooq Gudoo, police driver Farooq Ahmad Padder, Manzoor Ahmad Malik and Constable Bansi Lal. According to the charge-sheet produced before the court, the accused had hatched a criminal conspiracy and were involved in killing of Padroo, a carpenter from Larnoo Kokernag.
