JAMMU, Aug 17: The 68th Independence Day of the Democratic Republic of India, was celebrated with patriotic fervour and gaiety by various educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir on Friday last.
At the University of Jammu, Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, hoisted the National Flag at the Fountain Plaza and paid tribute to the great martyrs who laid down their present for better future of the country. He exhorted the University fraternity to work fervently for the nation as well as for the Institution
The Security Staff of the University, led by Capt S R Dubey, Security Officer, presented the guard of honour while patriotic songs were played amidst releasing of balloons. A cultural programme was also organized on the occasion. Senior Professors, officers, HoDs, JU employees, students and scholars were present.
The newly appointed Vice Chancellor (in Charge) of the Central University of Jammu, Jammu, Prof Dev Anand unfurled the National Flag on the Independence Day. The flag hoisting ceremony was attended by the University Registrar, Jit Singh, Deans of various schools, officers of the University, HoDs, faculty, supporting staff and students.
In his message, the Vice Chancellor asked the University officers faculty, students and the staff to take pledge in strengthening the newly established University to serve the society to its maximum potential.
On the occassion of Independence day, Tricolor was unfurled by Prof Sudhir K Jain, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU at the university campus. Registrar of the university, Ajay Khajuria, Deans, Directors , faculty, staff and students participated in the flag hoisting ceremony which was followed by an enthralling cultural programme by the students of the university in the Matrika auditorium.
Speaking on the occassion, Prof Jain urged the student community particularly the new entrants to realize the significance of independence and always strive to attain excellence. The flag hoisting was followed by a scintillating cultural programme presented by the students.
Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology (SKUAST) of Jammu celebrated 68th Independence Day at its main campus Chatha. Prof Pradeep K Sharma, Vice Chancellor unfurled the National Flag at the university in presence of the Directors, Deans, faculty members, staff and the students.
The Independence Day celebrations began with vice chancellor paying homage to the father of nation by garlanding Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait. In his address, the VC emphasized the need based research for the development of science and serving the farming community. The celebrations ended with a colourful cultural programme presented by the students of the university.
National Flag was hoisted at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri, during a well attended function on the 68th Independence Day. Registrar of BGSBU, Rashid Choudhary hoisted the flag and took salute. On the occasion, sweets were distributed while patriotic songs were sung by the university students.
Independence day was celebrated at Bhaderwah Campus of JU with full patriotic fervor. Rector Bhaderwah Campus, Prof G M Bhat, unfurled the National Flag in front of the administration block and said that each one of us must contribute in nation building in our humble ways.
On the occasion, cultural programme was presented by the students of Little Angel Nursery School.
Government Polytechnic Bikram Chowk, Jammu celebrated Independence Day with great joy, fervour and enthusiasm. On this occasion Er Arun Bangotra, Principal of the college unfurl the National Flag and threw light on the significance of this great day. 68th Independence Day was celebrated in Delhi Public School, Jammu with great enthusiasm and fervour. On the occasion, Music Deptt. of the school including many teachers presented an impressive and emotional tribute by singing patriotic songs. Kr Samar Dev Singh Charak, Secretary, Dogra Educational Trust, Prof B D Damral, Director, Dogra Educational Complex, Dr Samiya Tabasum, Principal Dogra Law College and D K Nayyar, Liaison Officer of Dogra Educational Complex were also present on the occasion.
In the function to celebrate Independence Day at Government Higher Secondary School Gandhi, Jammu, National Flag was unfurled by the Principal Taira Parveen. Staff and students recited the National Anthem while sweets were also distributed on the occasion.
Independence Day was celebrated with fervour and gaiety in the Government Higher Secondary School, Bahu Fort, Jammu. Principal R G Dogra hoisted the national flag following which a colourful cultural programme was presented. On the occasion, uniforms and sweets were distributed among the students.
KCS College of Education celebrated Independence Day in the college premises. The function started with the flag hoisting ceremony performed by the Principal, Prof O P Sharma. Independence Day was celebrated in Air Force School Jammu with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour. The celebrations began with flag hoisting by the chief guest Air Commodore P E Patange, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station Jammu. This was followed by the singing of the National Anthem. On the occasion, cultural bonanza was presented by the students who also displayed their models on science and social- sciences. Galaxy College of Education, Sainik Colony Jammu, celebrated 68th Independence Day by organizing a function during which Incharge Vice-Chancellor of the Central University Jammu, Prof Devanand hoisted national flag. Senior faculty members and Registrar of CUJ, were also present on the occasion besides Chairman of the college, Arun Kumar Sharma.
SVS Degree College and Shri Guru Gang Dev Ji College of Education, Chhan Arorian, Kathua celebrated Independence Day during which the national flag was hoisted by Principal Prof R l Sharma, and Dr P N Koul in the presence of Malkit Singh, teaching , non-teaching staff as well as citizens.
SVS Education Complex celebrated 68th Independence Day at SVS Degree College. On the occasion, National Flag was hoisted by Shri Swami Ji Maharaj. Luthra Public School Talab Tillo and Kachi Chawani and Shemrock Angels celebrated 68th Independence Day and Shri Krishan Janam Ashtami. Cultural items were organised on this occasion. Senior journalist M K Bangroo and Shri Ram Sena State president Rajiv Mahajan were the guests. During the celebration a quiz competition was also organised and prizes were distributed among the students.

Government Higher Secondary School, Sudhmahadev, celebrated Independence Day by organizing a function wherein Naib Tehsildar Mohd Saleem hoisted the national flag. On the eve of Independence Day, Principal Government Higher Secondary School, Rehal, Baljeet Singh unfurled the National Flag in the school premises and addressed the students, staff and public present on the occasion. The sweets were distributed among all.
A function on Independence Day was organized in the premises of Government Higher Secondary School, Mandal Phallian. The National Flag was hoisted by the school Principal Ghato Devi. A cultural programme was also organized.
