While there are rules and provisions making it compulsory for shopkeepers to display rate list of the commodities and goods they sell, the rule is being flouted generally here without any fear of action from the authorities. It is not regarding those items where MRP is mentioned but those where it is not. Take the case of vegetables, milk, cheese, etc nobody displays the rate thus the customer becomes the target of those shopkeepers who charge more than required. Sometime back the Government had constituted checking squads to monitor the market. After initial euphoria, these squads have disappeared from the scene of action, leaving behind customers to fend for themselves and face the brazen behaviour of shopkeepers.
It is time the Governments wakes from slumber and fans out the squads to provide succour to shoppers.
