UDHAMPUR, Aug 19: People of village Barmeen, block Ghordi in district Udhampur, held a demonstration in support of their demand of Tehsil status to block Ghordi.
The demonstration was held in village Ghordi under the leadership of Advocate Sanjeet Kumar Bavouria. The protesters blocked Udhampur – Ghordi road and raised slogans against the Government for alleged discrimination with the people of Ghordi by not according Tehsil status. They also torched an effigy of the State Government.
While addressing the demonstration, Advocate Bavouria said that block Ghordi has 27 Panchayats and about fifty thousand population while people have to travel for 70-80 kms to reach Tehsil headquarter Ramnagar for their official work related with concerned departments.
He announced that the ongoing Tehsil Nirman Movement from August 15 shall continue till their demand is fulfill by the State Government.
Claiming that the Government was going to announced village Channunta as the headquarters of newly created block Barmeen under political influence, the demonstrators vowed to oppose any such move tooth and nail.
