JAMMU, Aug 20: Special Excise Mobile Magistrate Jammu Amarjeet Singh Langeh today awarded one year rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 2000 to Vikas Sharma, a driver of matador, who was facing trial for the last 12 years for causing death of a person on December 12, 2002.
After hearing Senior Prosecuting Officer Jatinder Anand, Special Excise Mobile Magistrate observed, “prosecution has successfully established involvement of accused”, adding “the menace of growing road accidents and its fall out on the public safety is also to be required to be heeded to”.
“Even on the safer roads, a driver cannot afford to be reckless given the inherent nature of consequences that result from such recklessness”, the court said while awarding one year RI and fine of Rs 2000 to the accused driver.
