SRINAGAR, Aug 21: State Government has approached the Supreme Court against the order of the Division Bench of Jammu and Kashmir High Court regarding providing assistance to 4 lakh poor and destitute girls in the State and framing scheme for them.
When the matter came up for hearing before the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar today, Senior Additional Advocate General submitted that the Government has approached the Supreme Court challenging the order passed by the DB on August 5, 2014 whereby contempt notice was issued to Chief Secretary and Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare Department for dereliction of court direction with regard to formulation of rehabilitation scheme.
On this, DB deferred the proceedings for two weeks. “We defer the hearing of the matter although there is no direction from the Supreme Court in the matter”, the DB said and directed the Senior AAG to produce the direction of Supreme Court on next date.
