JAMMU, Aug 25: Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Sarkar honoured Padamshree Balwant Thakur at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan, Agartala on the inaugural day of National festival of Music Dance and Drama being organised by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi and Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, Government of Tripura in Agartala.
Other prominent cultural personalities who were honoured on the occasion included Kiran Seth (President SPIC MACAY) and Rohini Hattangari (famous film and theatre personality of internationally acclaimed ‘Gandhi’ fame).
It may be recalled that Balwant Thakur took the initiative of culturally bridging the State of J&K with North-Eastern States this year and organised mega cultural shows entitled ‘Jashan-e- Jammu & Kashmir’ featuring the representative performing arts traditions of J&K in Guwhati (Assam) and Imphal (Manipur).
People of North-East owe a lot to Balwant Thakur and his group Natrang for giving them this rarest opportunity to closely understand the magnificent cultural diversity of J&K.
