IIIM signs MoU with Dharmarth Trust

JAMMU, Aug 29: Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu today signed a MoU with Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Trust (JKDT), established by Maharaja Gulab Singh, the founder of J&K State and now headed by its sole trustee Dr Karan Singh, sitting member of Rajya Sabha.
JKDT is a voluntary organization working for the betterment and uplift of rural and backward farmers in the State. The Trust owns thousands of acres of forest land which is covered by a variety of forest vegetation and yielding no commercial benefit to the trust.
IIIM Jammu has long expertise and infrastructure in the area of cultivation value addition and utilization of various aromatic, medicinal, nutraceutical and commercial plant has entered into an understanding with the Trust to map the area and advice the Trust for cultivation of high value of commercial plants in the vast area of land owned by Dharmarth Trust.
While signing the MoU, Dr Ram Vishwakarma, Director IIIM, Jammu said that the Institute proposes to establish a Biodiversity Park in Utterbeni and map the whole area under the trust for identifying the plants which can be commercially and sustainability and commercially utilized for the employment and money generation for the farmers and backward habitants living in these areas.
Major Gen R S Jamwal (Retd), president of the Trust, who signed the agreement on behalf of the trust said that the help from the institute shall go a long way to provide additional income to the people living in these areas and the income to the trust in future shall be useful to serve the rural and backward farmers apart from efficiently maintaining the property of the Trust.
