SRINAGAR : Declaring that Jammu and Kashmir has joined secular India of Mahatama Gandhi, Legislative Assembly speaker Mubarak Gul said the country belongs to all citizens, irrespective of their religion, cast, creed, colour and region. He was speaking in the House today after opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members raised the issue of RSS chief Mohan Bagwat’s reported statement that ‘ Hindustan mai rehna hai to Hindu ban kay rehna hai’.
The PDP members, including Nizam Uddin Bhat said Jammu and Kashmir is a muslim majority state which has joined secular India. He demanded that House should condemn the statement of Mr Bagwat.
Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) members in the House objected to the statement and raised slogans which could not be heard because of counter slogans by PDP members.
Speaker Mr Gul said state has joined secular India of Gandhi and we condemn the statement of Mr Bagwat. This again led to counter slogan shouting between PDP and BJP members for some time.
Independent Er Sheikh Abdul Rashid alleged that PDP only wanted to secure points as this issue was raised by him on the first day of this last session. Why you keep silent during all these days, he asked the PDP members. He said there was a match fixing between PDP who wanted to gain votes by raising this issue in Kashmir and BJP who wanted to score votes in Jammu by supporting Bagwat. PDP members raised the slogans of ‘ Jis Kashmir Ko Khoon Saay Sincha, Woh Kashmir Hamara Hai’ and the BJP members stormed into the Well of the House raising counter slogans, which were not auidable in the press gallery.
However, speaker Mr Gul said India belongs to everyone, including Hidus, muslims, Christain and Sikhs who have made supreme sacrifices for the liberation of the country. (AGENCIES)
