JAMMU, Aug 30: As a part of its lifelong learning activities, Government Degree College (GDC) Udhampur organized an awareness programme that exclusively focused on social media sites and cyber crime.
Khalil Poswal, Superintendent of Police, Udhampur was the resource person.
The programme was presided over by Principal of the College Prof SS Bhalwal, who while speaking said that advancement of technology brings with it a lot of challenges also and we need to be equipped enough to cope with them and the awareness has no substitute.
“The young generation has been using the social media sites extensively without understanding the gravity of hazards associated with them. It is our institutional social responsibility to educate them, generate awareness and create a crime free society”, he added.
Poswal gave a detailed presentation covering all the legal and social aspects of the topic. He discussed in detail about the various sections of Information Technology Act 2000.
“While using social media account you need to be extra careful regarding behavior, changing the password frequently & logging out and signing out properly after each session. We must avoid using web-cam, avoid the scammers, avoiding click jacking and be selective in accepting friends. No information is deleted from the web network and no criminal can escape punishment”, he added.
Prof Kamal Kishore, NCC Officer was the organizer of the programme.
Prof Sudhir Singh conducted the proceeding and proposed the vote of thanks.
Among others present were Prof Rakesh Gupta, Dr Udhey Bhano, Prof R K Atri and Dr Ranjodh Singh.
