JAMMU, Aug 30: The daily rated, ITI trained  and CP/ consolidated workers of the PHE department are going on 48-hour Kam Chhorh Hartal from tomarrow.
A spokesman of  PHE Workers Welfare Association (Jammu province) said that Trade Unionists including Subash Verma,  Manzoor Ali, Rattan Doshi, Surinder Kumar, Sanjay Bali  and others  are spearheading the agitation. He  alleged that the Government has failed to resolve the issues of the PHE workers despite submitting several memoranda and holding protests. The higher authorities in the department have also turned deaf ear towards the issues of the workers.
Mr Verma criticized the higher authorities for totally ignoring the issues of the workers even after the meetings with Chief Engineer and the minister concerned Sham Lal Sharma. He alleged that fate of over 16,700 daily rated workers was hanging fire. Even the employees had given ultimatum to the Government  seeking resolution of their issues but the authorities did not bother. Compelled by the circumstances and indifferent attitude of the Chief Engineer, Commissioner/Secretary  and the Minister concerned, the Association has resolved to go for Kam Chhor Hartal for 48 hours from tomorrow evening. The Association appealed all the workers to suspend work for the two days for their cause. With the strike, the water supply may also remain affected in many areas.
Meanwhile, Chief Engineer PHE Jammu Sushil Aima   issued appeal to the PHE workers to withdraw their strike in view of the President’s visit to Jammu on September Ist. He claimed that the department was seriously pursuing their issues with the Government.
