29th foundation day of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board was celebrated with fervour and festivities at many places connected with the holy shrine. The town of Katra which is the base from where the ascent for the holy cave begins wore a real festive look with illuminations and other decorative appendages. The staff and devotees of the shrine participated in prayers, bhajans, havans and other religious activates to help people recollect how the Shrine Board worked steadily and with great patience and planning in the task of building the shrine complexes in a manner so as to provide maximum facilities to the pilgrims.
The fact of the matter is that the Shrine Board has created history in making a place of pilgrimage atop the Trikuta Hills a place of attraction for devotees coming from all the four corners of the country. The number of pilgrims last year exceeded one crore and this number will be increasing year after year. It is not so simple to handle such a large number of pilgrims. But thanks to the vision and perception of the Chairman of the Shrine Board, Governor NN Vohra who has been taking extraordinary interest in adding improvements to the shrine in all aspects, accommodation, transport, medical faculties, board and lodging so much so that rail connection has also been established. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine is fast developing as the most leading shrine in Northern India.
