JAMMU, Sept 3: In order to evolve and define scientific and technical terms in Dogri, and to publish glossaries, definitional dictionaries, encyclopedia, the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi, is organizing a four-day meeting from today in the Department of Botany, University of Jammu.
Experts from various fields including linguistics, Botany, Agriculture and Dogri language from within and outside the State are participating in the said meet.
Outlining the objective of such meets, Assistant Director, Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology, MHRD, New Delhi, Dr Dharminder Kumar explained that through such creative meets the evolved terms and their definitions reach the students, teachers, scholars, scientists, officers etc. He also desired that the proper coordination be made with the states to ensure uniformity of terminology in Hindi, Dogri and other Indian languages.
Dr Kumar further added that it is the endeavour of CSTT to encourage publication of books in Dogri for popularization and usage of standard terminology.
In his brief remarks, D D Nautiyal, former Secretary, CSTT and a renowned linguistic expert, opined that the translators are intercultural mediators and the translation of a language will allow us to open the doors to unknown cultural and linguistic environments.
On the occasion, Prof Geeta Sumbali, Head, Department of Botany, assured all possible assistance during the meet.
Earlier, Prof Yash Pal Sharma, the Coordinator of the four- day meet, formally welcomed the CSTT members and experts to the Department of Botany, University of Jammu.
