Prime Minister Narendra Modi is arriving here tomorrow on a day’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir to assess situation due to worst ever rains and floods, which have taken a huge toll of lives and caused massive damage to infrastructure.
The decision by Modi to visit J&K, his third to the State in past about two months, came following a review meeting which he called after being briefed this evening by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who returned to the national capital after surveying the flood affected State.
Official sources told the Excelsior that Modi will reach the Technical Airport at 10.20 am. After a briefing from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at the Airport, the Prime Minister accompanied by Omar, MoS in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh, MoS Home Sajjad Ahmed Kithcloo, Divisional Commissioner Shantmanu and IGP Rajesh Kumar will undertake aerial survey of flood affected areas of Jammu including Jammu City, RS Pura and Suchetgarh sectors on the International Border, Sidhra, Nagrota, Domana, Akhnoor and if the weather permits Rajouri and Poonch districts.
After aerial survey, he will return to the Technical Airport and fly to Srinagar, where also he would hold aerial survey of flood hit areas and later review situation with the administration before returning to New Delhi.
This is third visit of the Prime Minister to Jammu and Kashmir in about two months, which indicated how much importance the sensitive border State was getting from the Centre. Modi had visited Katra on July 4 to inaugurate Udhampur-Katra railway line and visited Leh and Kargil on August 12 to dedicated power projects to the people.
“After reviewing the situation in New Delhi today, the Prime Minister decided to visit J&K to personally assess the gravity of the situation and understand the problems being faced by the people,” sources said.
The Cabinet Secretary and Modi’s Principal Secretary were among those who attended the review meeting.
