JAMMU, Sept 8: Expressing serious concern over the situation arisen due to flash floods in entire J&K State in which more than 200 people have lost their lives and thousands of people have been rendered helpless and homeless, the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chamber has stressed that the rescue operations should be taken on war footing basis where the water level is still above danger mark.
The Chamber has also appealed to all the people in general and the associations in particular to come forward to distribute food and other items of daily needs among the displaced and affected family whole heartedly.
A meeting of the office bearers of CCI was held today under the chairmanship of Rakesh Gupta, its president, for discussing the prevailing situation and extending a helping hand to the victims.
The Chamber expressed deep concern over the losses occurred to the industries situated at Gangyal as well as Tope Sherkhania due to recent flash floods and appealed the authorities to assess the losses suffered by these industries and provide adequate compensation to them at the earliest.
The meet lauded the Prime Minister for announcing Central Assistance of Rs 2100 crores for the relief and rehabilitation of the affected families and also appreciated the State administration and security forces for immediate and in-time rescue operations in the entire State. However, more needs to be done as people held up especially in Srinagar are making frantic calls for help, the Chamber observed.
Those present in the meeting, included Sham Lal Langer (Sr vice president) Deepak Aggarwal (Jr vice president), Arun Gupta (secretary general), Rahul Mahajan (secretary) and Ashu Gupta (treasurer).
