TN, MP Govts announce financial assistance for flood affected people

JAMMU, Sept 8: The Governments of Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh and Mahindra Group today announced financial assistance for the flood affected people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today announced an assistance of Rs five crore to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, which was ravaged by floods and landslides.
In a statement, she said, the unprecedented floods and landslides in Jammu and Kashmir have caused extensive damage to property and have taken a heavy toll of lives. She promised to render all assistance to the hill State.
“This has also caused untold suffering to the people of the State and tourists visiting Jammu and Kashmir,” she said, adding “on behalf of the State Government and people of Tamil Nadu, I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family members of all those who have lost their lives in the colossal tragedy”.
Ms Jayalalithaa said Jammu and Kashmir is faced with the arduous task of ensuring immediate rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures for the flood-ravaged areas and reconstruction of the devastated areas in the coming days.    “As a token of the support and solidarity of the Government and people of Tamil Nadu with the Government and people of Jammu and Kashmir in their hour of need, I have ordered the immediate contribution of a sum of Rs five crore from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund to the Jammu and Kashmir Government,” she said.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also announced an aid of Rs five crore to flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir.
“Our brothers and sisters of J&K are facing unprecedented hardships due to floods. MP pledges immediate assistance of Rs five crores for relief”, the Chief Minister said in a tweet.
He also appealed to the people of Madhya Pradesh to contribute generously to help the people of Jammu and Kashmir.  “I appeal to all citizens of MP to come forward and contribute to the relief effort in J&K. As countrymen we shall stand firmly together,” the Chief Minister said in another tweet.
Diversified business conglomerate Mahindra Group pledged Rs 2 crore to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for relief efforts in flood ravaged Jammu & Kashmir.
“The floods in J&K are devastating. The Mahindra Group pledges Rs 2 crore to Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for J&K flood relief,” Mahindra Group Chairman and Managing Director Anand Mahindra said on microblogging site twitter.
He further said group company Mahindra Consulting Engineers is offering to conceive and deliver a template for a safe and sustainable village cluster in flood zones in Kashmir.
Meanwhile, BJP national president Amit Shah today asked party workers to donate for the flood victims of Jammu and Kashmir.
‘The people of Jammu and Kashmir are grappling with the worst floods which has hit the state in the last 100 years. Therefore it is time that the BJP workers help the people of J&K,’ he said while addressing party workers at the Prabhat Tara maidan in Dhurwa.
Mr Shah asked the party workers of Jharkhand to donate clothes, food and other valuables for the people of the flood-ravaged State.
