JAMMU, Sept 8: Excelsior today received a large number of distress calls from different parts of Srinagar from relatives of the people, who were still atop their houses and hotels awaiting rescue operation from the Army, IAF and Navy in their localities.
Several people including tourists, Civil Secretariat employees from Jammu and locals of Srinagar feared that if they were not rescued immediately they would drown in the flood waters. Most of the people haven’t taken food for the last two days as they were spending days and nights in the open on their roofs hoping for the water level to recede.
“Urgent help is required to save several Medical College students from Jammu stranded at Government Women Hostel at Karan Nagar, Srinagar,” one of the distress call, which has also been posted by the Excelsior at its website help @dailyexcelsior.com, said. The persons needing help can post their messages on our same website.
Naresh Mattoo posted on the website that he wanted to know about his family members Diya, Meenakshi and Dheeraj.
Several employees including Anil Gupta from Jammu were stranded at Hotel Apex in Indira Nagar, his wife said in Jammu. About 60 to 70 employees were stranded at Hotel Hee Maal at Dal lake while many others were held up at Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) Srinagar and Hotel President, Indira Nagar, Srinagar.
Sanjay Sharma wrote that his brother Sahil Prashar was staying at Hotel Woodland, Rajbagh. Ravi Chamoli wrote that his family members Vinamr Kedia, Arushi and Harsha were untraceable.
Gurpreet posted that help was needed at a house near Sterling Hotel Street (Modern Sweet Lane) near Zero Bridge, Srinagar and similar help has been sought at Flat No. 7, Jawahar Nagar, Opposite SBI ATM.
Meenakshi wrote that a KAS officer was trapped at Bakshi Stadium Tulsi Bagh Government Quarters and Jagandeep Singh, a final year student was trapped at NIT Hazratbal. Help was also sought at ZB Guest House.
Romesh Sharma sought help at Pantha Chowk Vaishno Dhaba, Wassem Akram for his relative at Saribal near Iqra Masjid, Umesh Verma sought help for his family at H No. 102 behind National School, Karan Nagar and Shah Nawaz at Tulsi Bagh Government Quarters.
Pankaj Rajput wrote that about 400 persons in MLA hostel required help. Naeem Akhter called for airlifting the people from Lasjan while Sadaket Malik wanted Rajan Khajuria to be rescued from Hitel Ragdon near Dal lake.
Sumit Sharma wrote that Darshan Sharma needs immediate help at Hotel Kohinoor at Mamata Chowk, Srinagar.
A citizen wrote that his son Mohit Samyal and 36 MBBS students were stranded at Bemina Hostel in Srinagar city and required help.
Rahul wrote that his father is stranded at Government Quarters near Bakshi Stadium and required help.
