Air Force launches MI 26 into ongoing J&K relief operation

CHANDIGARH : The Air Force 12 Wing has launched MI-26 helicopter into ongoing relief operation in Jammu and Kashmir. MI-26 will be operating from Awantipur, said official sources.
It will prove to be very effective in flood relief. This will also assist in infrastructure development as it can carry heavy machinery and load in a single sortie. This is world’s biggest helicopter and can lift 30 tonnes of load. It was also used in Uttarakhand during Op-Rahat.
The deployment of MI-26 surely help in speedy repairs of roads, bridges and other essential infrastructure in addition to the supply of essentials, the sources added. Earlier, the first IL-76 with 206 passengers, including civilians, tourists and workers from other states, landed at 0730 hrs after flying five long hours over night for relief operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
Medical assistance, food drinking water and primary help was extended to the people at 12 Wing relief camp. Onward transportation to bus stands and railway stations were also arranged, the sources said.
The 12 Wing also opened a helpline number 0172-2642045 to facilitate queries as regard evacuation. (AGENCIES)
