Dy CM reviews flood situation

JAMMU, Sept 13: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today held a high level review meeting and reviewed the pace and progress of different departments in addressing the damage done by the flood situation in the province.
“The state has seen worst ever natural calamity and need of the hour is to reach out to those who have been badly hit by ensuring time bound restoration and rehabilitation,” he emphasized.
Divisional Commissioner Shantmanu, Inspector General of Police Rajesh Kumar, District Development Commissioner, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Director Rural Development Department Shafiq Ahmed Raina, Director CAPD, Chief Engineer R&B, PDD besides other senior officers and engineers of PHE, Flood Control, PDD and UEED were also present in the meeting.
Stressing on time bound assessment of the damage and restoration works, Tara Chand directed the officers to categories the needed works on short term and long term basis, adding that priority should be given to those works which require immediate attention. He said plans for relief and restoration have to be formulated keeping in view the exigency of the works and all out efforts should be made to reach out to those who have been hit hard by the devastating floods.
The Deputy Chief Minister immediately after returning from the meeting with Prime Minister took a detailed review of the rescue, relief and rehabilitation works in the province. He issued directions to the provincial department heads  for ensuring inter departmental coordination so that prompt action can be taken to address the needs of those who have suffered in the present catastrophe.
He held thread bare discussions with PWD, PDD, PHE, Flood Control and Irrigation engineers and directed that priority should be given to road, power and potable water restoration in the flood affected areas. Once road connectivity is restored all the necessary amenities would start reaching, he added.
Tara Chand directed the Health Department to be fully geared up for attending those who are being brought to the city from different parts of the state. Proper arrangements have to be made for ensuring that no health hazard occurs, he added.
MLA Mohd Sharif Niaz also joined the meeting and projected the problems faced by the people of erstwhile Doda district. He also highlighted the problems faced by people living in Bhagwati Nagar, Batandi and other adjoining areas of Jammu city.
