CBDT extends date for filing returns

JAMMU, Sept 16: In view of devastation caused by the flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) today extended the due date for filing returns of income from September 30, 2014 to November 30, 2014.
This has been conveyed by Richa Rastogi, Under-Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Finance and Department of Revenue to all the concerned authorities and assessees of the State.
Considering the large-scale devastation in Jammu and Kashmir due to heavy rains and floods, the CBDT in exercise of powers conferred under Section 119 of the Income Tax Act, 1961 has extended the due date for filing returns of income from September 30 to November 30 in cases of income tax assessees in Jammu and Kashmir, she said.
These assessees as per clause (a) of the Explanation 2 to Sub-Section (1) of Section 139 of the Income Tax Act were liable to file their income tax returns by September 30, 2014.
