SRINAGAR, Sept 18: Stressing for close rapport with the public, Minister of State for Home, Sajad Ahmed Kichloo has asked all ranks of JKP to brace up in the assistance of flood victims of the State. He said that the people have suffered huge losses of life and property and JKP has a great responsibility to extend their help in this hour of need.
Mr. Kichloo was chairing a high level meeting of senior police officers at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today. The meeting was convened to take stock of the post flood police functioning. He appreciated the police working during the floods, saying that despite personal losses and damages to the infrastructure, the men in uniform stood on forefront in the rescue operations. Various office buildings and equipments got damaged due to heavy floods, but the police personnel ensured their attendance and professional duties round the clock using their sources.
He said that the submerged police establishments started their functioning from the alternate places and maintained coordination among different agencies involved in the rescue operations.
Director General of Police, K. Rajendra Kumar briefed the Minister about the functioning of JKP during floods in the State. He said that the floods engulfed Srinagar City and other parts of the Valley and Jammu endangering the life and property of police personnel as well. However jawans and officers exhibited a great courage and braced up themselves in rescue operations.
Mr. Rajendra also briefed the Minister about the losses caused to the infrastructure and equipment of the Organization. He said that police telecommunication was the only means to maintain coordination when all communication means and road connectivity was disrupted. However JKP taking a great challenge established communication centres at different locations including airports, to coordinate rescue operations between state and central governments and organizations.
Mr. Kichloo asked the officers to consolidate the damages and losses to the properties of the department and submit to the State Home Ministry which would be liberal in providing required funds and restoring normal policing. He assured that the Government would provide all possible assistance to rebuild the damaged infrastructures.
Later, Mr Kichloo inspected the Wireless Communication Centre recently set up at PHQ and enquired about its functioning. He was briefed by DGP that the centre is working round the clock and is coordinating with latest equipments of communication.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ADGP (Headquarters) PHQ, SP Vaid, IGPs, Dr. B. Srinivas, AK Choudhary and HK Lohia, DIG (Administration), Ali Mohammad, AIGPs, AA Kakroo, Tahir Sajad, Rajeshwar Singh and Abdul Rashid Bhat, SP, Training (PHQ), BA Shah and other police officers.
