Ensure equitable distribution of relief: JKHCBA to Govt

JAMMU, Sept 18: Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association today urged the State Government to ensure fair assessment of the losses suffered by the people due to floods and equitable distribution of the relief.
Addressing press conference, Senior Advocate M K Bhardwaj, president of the Association, said that the Bar Association has unanimously resolved to call upon the State administration to make fair assessment of the loss suffered by the general public in the flood hit parts of the State and make equitable distribution of relief fund/donation etc received from Government of India, different States, Corporate Sector, NGOs etc.
“No part of the State be discriminated against in distribution of relief fund and all attempts should be made at the earliest to reach out to the people who are still inaccessible”, he said, adding “the Bar Association has also made an appeal to the medicos to provide free medical aid to the flood affected persons”.
“The teachers community is also appealed to provide free education to the children affected due to floods even if they have to take the extra classes”, he said while requesting all the Deputy Commissioners, Director School Education and CEOs to prepare the lists of the students affected by flood so that the school dresses/study materials are fairly distributed at the earliest  in order to ensure that their education is not hampered any more.
“All the members of the Bar have offered their services, support and help to the flood affected victims anywhere in the State”, he disclosed, adding “any person desirous of seeking legal aid may contact on numbers—2531111 and 94191-91871  or personally meet the office bearers of the Bar in the High Court complex”.
“We have also made an appeal to the members of the legal fraternity, district and tehsil Bar Associations to render full support and help to flood affected victims in the State”, he said, adding “a committee headed by Advocate Ranjit Singh Jamwal has been constituted to monitor the flood relief fund and free legal aid advice to the flood affected people”.
Later, office bearers of the Bar visited Phallaian Mandal area, which has been badly hit by the recent floods to take on-spot assessment of the losses suffered by the residents.
