Governor reviews flood relief work

SRINAGAR, Sept 18: In a meeting this afternoon, the GOC XV Corps, Lieutenant General Subrata Saha briefed N.N. Vohra, Governor, about the  rescue and relief measures so far taken by the army on its own , and with IAF’s support, to meet the enormous  challenge posed by the flood disaster.
Thereafter, along with Lieutenant General Saha, the Governor undertook an aerial reconnaissance of the entire town and surrounding areas. The Governor had undertaken a similar survey last week. The Governor is receiving daily reports about the relief measures currently underway.
Meanwhile, Satya Mohanty, Secretary, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), called on Mr Vohra.
Mr. Mohanty briefed the Governor about the ongoing rescue and relief operations which are being carried out by the NDMA in the flood affected areas of the Valley and elsewhere. The Governor discussed with Mr. Mohanty the NDMA’s short term plan for meeting the obtaining situation as also the longer term goals of meeting such unforeseen disaster of unprecedented nature in the future.
They also discussed preventive public health measures required to be put in place for ensuring against the spread of disease.
