Tourism Ministry gives Rs 100 cr

JAMMU, Sept 19: The Union Ministry of Tourism has allocated Rs 100 crores for restoration of damaged Tourism infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir due to flash floods.
This was conveyed in writing by the Union Tourism Secretary Parvez Dewan during his meetings with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chief Secretary, State Tourism Minister and other officers in Srinagar on Thursday.
Being sanctioned for creation of Government assets in lieu of destroyed or substantially damaged Government infrastructure, this Rs 100 crore is in addition to Rs 127 crores already prioritized for this year, Mr Dewan said.
During his visit, the Union Tourism Secretary surveyed Srinagar, Nowgam etc and got an overall idea of the damage to the Tourism infrastructure in Government as well as private sector. He also met the representatives of Tourism Industry in Kashmir who apprised him of the issues concerning them.
After the meeting, it was also decided to declare Kashmir open through a campaign on national television with an equally beautiful film about Jammu also. The date of launching will be decided by State Government after consultation with local traders.
Parvez Dewan asked the hoteliers to survey their intact rooms and floors and make a consolidated list with Director Tourism Kashmir so that the Government can assess when to declare reopening of Kashmir for tourists.
