JAMMU, Sept 25: The president Chamber of Commerce and Industry Rakesh Gupta along with the office bearers today called on Commissioner Commercial Taxes and demanded that the date for filing VAT returns be extended for six months.
Apprising the Commissioner of the prevailing situation in the State of Jammu & Kashmir after the recent flash floods whereafter the business community has almost gone bankrupt with the scale of losses, delegation explained that the traders and the industrialists were in no position to make the payments in lieu of VAT to be collected.
They urged the Commissioner to extend the date for depositing of VAT for the 2nd quarter, filing of returns for the second quarter, audited annual returns and cancel any warrants issued by the DC Recoveries for the time being besides announcing an amnesty scheme for past arrears pertaining to interest and penalties.
The Chamber also informed that the same demands have already been communicated to the Finance Minister through a representation sent on September 22.
The Commissioner Commercial taxes assured the Chamber president that the same shall be considered and a decision shall be taken within days soon after the rescue process is over keeping in view the interests of the business community.
