Orientation programme organized by CASH

JAMMU, Sept 25: An Orientation Programme was organized in the Department of English by the Committee Against Sexual Harassment (CASH), University of Jammu, to sensitize the students, scholars and teachers of the Department towards issues pertaining to sexual harassment.
Prof Satnam Kour, Chairperson, CASH and Head Department of English, JU, in her introductory remarks, informed the students about the establishment of committees against sexual harassment in various Institutions and organizations referring specifically to the setting up of CASH in the University of Jammu. She also provided a broad overview of different kinds of harassment which take place in educational institutions, work places and in the general social set-up.
This was followed by a presentation by Dr Kavita Suri, Associate Professor, Department of Life Long Learning and member CASH, University of Jammu. Beginning with various incidents of sexual harassment across various countries and cultures, she highlighted how sexual harassment is a widespread phenomenon. One of the difficulties in understanding sexual harassment is that in most cases it is difficult for the victim to describe what they experienced. It includes a range of actions from mild transgression to sexual assault.
The students actively interacted with the Resource Persons so as to clear their doubts and misconceptions. The programme ended with the students and teachers taking a pledge to come forward to fight against sexual harassment in all spheres of life.
