NYC volunteers threaten to launch agitation

SRINAGAR, July 20: The National Youth Corps (NYC) Volunteers today threatened to launch state-wide agitation in support of their demands in case the Government does not issue formal orders for their engagement as staff in the different Government departments.
The decision to launch state-wide agitation was taken during a meeting of National Youth Corps Volunteers Association (NYCVA) presided over by Anu Verma. The meeting resolved that reasonable time-frame would be given to the state government failing which agitation would be launched.
“The State Government should be serious in formulating a policy for the NYC volunteers. The Government is resorting to delaying tactics thinking that we might give up on our demands. Let me warn them that this is bound to result into serious consequences which will not be good for the future,” said Mudasir Hassan, President NYCVA.
Mudasir said that time of verbal assurances has gone, agreement has to be put in black and white. He said the State Government should come out with a clear cut policy for the NYC volunteers. He said non-action from the Government would force the 8,000 NYC volunteers to come out on main roads and lodge protest in support of their demands.
Addressing the meeting, State Joint Secretary NYCVA Syed Bakar Shah said that the NYC volunteers are being paid peanuts in the form of Rs. 2,500 per month as honorarium. He said no politics should be played with the future of youth and the state government should issue formal orders for their engagement in the Government departments.
