Happiness redefined

NEW DELHI, Sept 29:  A popular Facebook page on illustrations, made out of ideas shared about happiness derived from small things, is now available in a book form.
“Happiness Is” comprises illustrations by husband-wife duo of Ralph Lazar and Lisa Swerling about several things to be happy about every day based on ideas shared on the Facebook page called ‘The Happy Page’.
Published by Penguin Books India, “Happiness Is” has 500 of the best illustrations from the creators of one of the world’s most popular social media pages.
So what can make one happy? Ever sat down and made a list of what things there are to be happy about?
It may be by ‘getting a window seat on a bus’, ‘finding the perfect thing to wear’, ‘the smell of rain’, ‘getting old password right on the first guess’ or ‘typing the end’.
‘Taking goofy pictures’, ‘the vending machine giving you extra’, ‘a head massage’ or ‘dropping your phone and catching it mid-air’ also gives happiness.
The Happy Page has over 2.27 million fans. This project uses line drawn illustrations accompanied by blissfully simple captions inspired by the smaller joys in life.
It immediately went viral all over the world without a single cent spent on advertising and a huge number of its fans are from India.
Happiness can be derived from all the small things in life like an unexpected bouquet, cheese, fixing something, and a good high-five, according to Lazar and Swerling.
“The charming, make-you-smile illustrations hit just the right note – not too sappy, not too sweet – and remind us that there are dozens of things to be happy about every day,” they say.
Their various projects have been quite successful, be it is the intricate Glass Cathedral Dioramas that Swerling is famous for or the hugely popular Harold’s Planet, Vimrod or The Brainwaves creations of her husband Lazar.
People can submit their own unique, insightful and personal ideas of the little joys in life and Lazar and Swerling will illustrate these for the Facebook page. (PTI)
