SRINAGAR, Oct 4: Former Union Minister and J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz (MP) has alleged that people of Kashmir who are affected with the recent floods are worried as the NDA Government at the Centre has not extended any financial support to them even after one month of the tragedy.
In a press statement issued here today Prof Soz said, ” It is really worrying that the NDA Government has not extended financial support to the State Government for rehabilitation of the flood sufferers in J&K State so far. Entire world knows that the devastation that this flood caused in the J&K, is unprecedented in the State’s history.”
Prof Soz further said that the J&K Government was reasonably enough to project before the Central Government a demand for rupees five lakhs per family for a fully damaged house. Then both National Conference and Congress leaders made a demand recently that the J&K State should at least, receive a package from Central Government equivalent to what the UPA Government had sanctioned for Uttrakhand to cope up with the disaster that occurred there last year.
The PCC chief pointed out that the independent observers have categorically suggested that the loss of property and crops in J&K State is very substantially higher when compared to the loss that Uttrakhand suffered last year. The people of Kashmir are particularly worried for relief as the winter is approaching fast and the delay in grant of financial assistance is going to make their lives miserable.
