State Govt ignoring Jammu areas for relief: Bhim Singh

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Oct 5: The J&K National Panthers Party (NPP) president and Member National Integration Council Prof Bhim Singh has alleged that State Government ignored Saddal village of Pancheri in Udhampur and Rajouri- Poonch areas in the reply filed before the Supreme Court for the relief and rehabilitation.
Talking to media-persons here today, Prof Bhim Singh claimed that a 5-member committee from Delhi visited here recently on directions from the Supreme Court. He said the case had been filed in the apex court by him, seeking immediate remedies for the rescue of the stranded people in different parts of the State and relief and their rehabilitation. The SC framed a 5-member committee to monitor the distribution of the relief etc. The team was sent on the request of him (Bhim Singh) by the apex court.
The NPP leader who is leading lawyer of Supreme Court said that earlier the apex court also directed the State and the Union of India to set up a joint command to look for immediate operations to rescue the stranded people, provide them relief and work a plan for their permanent rehabilitation. But the two Governments did not comply with this order. The J&K Government filed a reply in the Supreme Court giving the so called factual position of ten districts of Kashmir valley only. The NPP (he himself), filed rejoinder affidavit giving details of the loss and damages caused by the flood havoc between September 3 and September 9. The horror of the natural disaster caused in Saddal village of Pancheri in Udhampur, the tragic death of 52 passengers in Laam area of Nowshera on Sept 4, 2014 did not find mention by the State Government. Nor the State Government mentioned the losses of lives, damages caused to the crops of the farmers or the loss of cattle etc in Poonch, Surankote, Rajouri, Reasi, Udhampur, Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Ramban etc. Mr Singh said that the SC has issued directions to the State and the Central Government asking for 5 member monitoring committee assuring that the SC shall facilitate the monitoring process. The State has been directed to file its reply about action taken by Oct 10, 2014.
The NPP chief patron also referred to his experience during his five day visit to flood, rain, land slides hit areas of Kashmir, Pancheri, Reasi, Nowshera, Rajouri and Poonch. He alleged that from Government side no adequate relief has been given to the victims. Only NGOs and individuals were rendering help at their own. He said even in Kashmir over 90% of the people told him that they have not been provided any relief. Prof Singh said that villagers at Saddal need immediate shelters as the winters are drawing nearer. He alleged that there is no Govt at all, in place of helping, the Government officers are creating hurdles for the NGOs and others willing to help the flood rain affected people.
